Baby Massage
The benefits of infant massage are more far-reaching than they may at first seem. For an infant, massage is much more than a relaxing experience or a type of physical therapy. It helps the baby’s internal functions work smoothly, releases tension and helps your baby to feel securely loved and cherished, a benefit that will remain with your baby for life.
Ideally baby massage courses are held as one session per week for 4 weeks, slowly building up the massage routine to suit the baby's pace.
However, it is possible to organise courses to a different schedule according to your own needs. We at Storks will be only too happy to discuss your requirements to see how best we can help.
Techniques are demonstrated and explained fully by our Midwife therapists using a doll, parents then massage their own babies.
If baby is asleep or a bit tetchy, a doll will be provided to practice on. (It is up to the parents to practice these skills in between classes to build up the baby's tolerance).
Our Midwife therapists will discuss many aspects of the baby massage, explaining the benefits of the particular massage movements, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, or go over any of the movements again.
Each session will explore a different area of the body, then finally we will bring the whole routine together. This is a lovely way to bond with your baby and to meet others with babies of similar ages.
The sessions last for around an hour with time for discussion and questions.
Babies usually dictate exactly how long they wish the massage itself to last for.
