Antenatal Care
Storks offers you additional antenatal care to that which you receive with the NHS. If you are not entitled to receive care under the NHS we are also able to provide a full package of private Midwifery care in your pregnancy.
You may choose additional checks for reassurance or total antenatal care, whichever is right for you, we can help to make the difference.
Consultations are private, professional and confidential. Consultations will be recorded and you will receive a copy of these notes to share with any other care provider with whom you choose to do so.
It is important that we properly understand your previous medical and obstetric history and family history and any other pregnancies and births you have had. Your hospital notes will aid this so please bring them with you or have them to hand if possible.
Antenatal appointments are an opportunity to check on the health of you and your baby, to discuss any worries you may have and to ensure that your care is ‘on track’. Consultations will include measuring your blood pressure, testing your urine, ensuring that any oedema (swelling) is within normal limits, to check the growth and position of your baby and to listen to the baby’s heartbeat with a sonicaid, so that you can hear as well.
Storks Midwives will have sufficient time to explain and discuss in an unhurried situation, all of the issues that you want to cover during each consultation. The time is all yours.
NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) suggests that antenatal care should normally include appointments at around 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 38, 40 and 41 weeks.
At Storks we suggest that you attend your 12, 28, 36 & 40 weeks appointments with your main care provider as a minimum.
Storks offer you additional antenatal care as often as YOU want. Helping you to be reassured and supported. As midwives we are experts in normal pregnancy, birth and up to 28 days afterwards. However if during any of our consultation our checks reveal that there is a deviation from normal we are required by our codes of conduct, to refer you to an Obstetrician for a medical opinion.
